Trees

(For Mrs. Henry Mills Alden)

I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest,
Against the Earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray.

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

- Joyce Kilmer

It is human nature to want to be remembered after our passing and people achieve this in many ways. Some donate large sums of money toward public buildings that will bear their names, while others make a name for themselves in politics, acting, music or science. For many, the only legacy is their children and a name on a tombstone. The Licking Park District offers a way that you may memorialize a loved one and provide benefits for many years to come.

Over 35 individuals have been memorialized by their family and friends in the Memorial Tree Grove at Infirmary Mound Park. Purchasing a tree for the grove is an act that will not only create a living memory of your loved one, but also benefit park users and the environment. A tasteful plaque will complement the tree with memorial information.

If you are considering a way to keep your loved one’s memory alive, consider purchasing a memorial tree. Park District staff will assist you in choosing a tree, creating a unique plaque, and ensuring that your tree and plaque are professionally installed.
