Want to understand our levy proposal?
What will the 0.25 mil levy do?
Funding for the Licking Park District, which manages our parks, paths and trails, has been cut by almost 70% in the past two years, which has resulted in major decreases in financial resources and staff.- Take care of the bike paths and trails!
- Repair park shelters and equipment!
- Restore cultural and nature programs and special events!
- Maintain and develop parks properly as an economic benefit to our community.
- Protect and preserve local habitats and greenspace.
- Some facilities are often closed, and planned developments have halted.
- Many paths, equipment, trails and buildings have maintenance and safety issues.
- All special events and educational outreach programs were cancelled.
A small levy is essential to protect and sustain the safety and quality of our parks, bike paths, trails, programs and events. With adequate funding, the Licking Park District has a positive influence on our community’s health, economy, culture, and environment.
For $7.65 per year (for a $100,000 home), the Licking Park District will perform needed repairs and maintenance and restart valuable programs and events. It also fuels vital development for future improvements according to the district’s five-year strategic plan.
If the levy on March 6th is passed, the Licking Park District expects to:
- Perform important repairs and routine maintenance to bike paths, shelters, bridges, trails, playground, dams, restrooms, barns, decks, docks, and parking lots.
- Provide operations support including equipment and materials for mowing, maintenance, emergency response, secure gates, and volunteer training & coordination.
- Reopen facilities closed due to safety and support issues.
- Develop handicapped access, signage & maps, dam enhancements, and trail restructuring and creation.
- Support quality facilities that contribute to our community’s economic growth and business development.
- Restart various cultural and nature outreach programs for adults and children, including historical, scientific, educational, artistic and recreational programs. This also includes student field trips and in-school visits, and special support for boy and girl scout activities.
- Reinstate popular special events such as seasonal activities and historical re-enactments.
